Dermabrasion

By

What happens

Dermabrasion is an increasingly popular procedure, with many people having it every day. It can lessen the look of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage spots and age spots and a host of other problems, even some basal sell skin cancers. But very few people actually know what happens when you have a dermabrasion treatment.

What happens: The area to be treated is cleansed thoroughly with an antiseptic treatment,

The patient is given a local anaesthetic and then may be given medication to prevent pain afterwards and to help them relax.

The area is then sprayed with a liquid refrigerant, this will help to freeze the skin.

A high speed sanding wheel or rotating steel brush is then used to sand and scrape all of the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin) and some of the dermis (the next layer) away.

This can take between 30 minutes to 1 hour to do, depending on the severity of the skin problem and the size of the area to be treated.

The skin can be covered with bandages or left to heal by itself.

The regrowth of the skin can take about 8 days

The skin can be red and sore for up to 12 weeks, you can still apply make up to lessen the redness.

Agreed, I can't believe that some people do this for cosmetic or vanity reasons!
