How to save money on food bills
By 3cardmonte
Food is a major expense for everybody, whether you have a family or not. But there are so many ways you can cut your weekly grocery bill.
Forget ready meals.
Ready meals may seem like good value for money, but when you actually break it down you get very little for what you pay for. The average ready meal is around £1.99 and for that you get one meal when you could potentially buy the ingredients to make two meals. Also, ready meals contain a lot of processed ingredients and fats so are not great for you.
Price comparisons.
Comparing the prices of different items could potentially save you 25% off your grocery bill. Always look for the best deal you can, if you haven't got time to trawl the supermarkets then spend a few minutes online comparing prices.
Value
There are certain items that come people would never buy the value brand of, which is fair enough. But with basics like salt, pepper, rice, oil etc. there is very little point in shelling out for top brand names because it is essentially the same stuff.
Tinned.
Fresh fruit and vegetables can be incredibly expensive, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with buying tinned fruit or veg. If you are buying tinned fruit just be sure to buy the fruit in its own juices and not syrup because the syrup is loaded with sugar!
Think....and look.
Just because a product is on offer doesn't mean it is the best buy, super markets use ploys like this to help you spend your money unwisely! Always be on the lookout for the very best deal.
Supermarkets have spent millions of pounds working out the most effective ways to get you to spend as much money as possible, so going in with your wits about you is the best way to ensure you bag a bargain.
