Make earrings from plastic bags

 

So many plastic bags get thrown away everyday, but did you know that you can make beautiful and unique jewellery with them!

 

You will need:

 

Plastic bags 2 makes between 2-3 pairs.

Scissors

An iron

Newspaper

Acrylic paint or nail polish

Ear wires.

Large needle or compass

 

Step 1: Cut the handles off the bags, cut down the seams of the bags so that you are let with sheets. Place these sheets on an ironing board.

 

Step 2: Cover the sheets of plastic with sheets of newspaper, this is to prevent the plastic from sticking to and ruining your iron. Iron gently on a low heat for about 15 minutes, keep the iron moving continuously.

 

Step 3: Remove the paper and fold the plastic sheet in half, replace the paper and continue to iron on a medium setting for 15 minutes. Keep ironing until all the fibres of the plastic bags have been fused together and you are left with one large sheet, allow to cool.

 

Step 4: Draw the shapes that you want onto the plastic with a pencil or water-soluble marker. Cut them out.

 

Step 5: Pierce a small hole where you want the ear wire to be, paint the shapes with acrylic paint or nail polish, finish with a clear sealant.

 

Step 6: Attach the ear wires.
