Will a long distance relationship work?

Long distance relationships can be incredibly complicated for everyone involved. The lack of time spent together can be very stressful for both parties and it can really take its toll on your relationship.

But possibly the most difficult thing about a long distance relationship is figuring out whether it will work in the long term or not. But there are ways you can work out whether or not it is the right relationship for you.

One of the most important things to remember when trying to figure out if a long distance relationship is going to work is to remember that your relationship is different to everyone else's. You do not get to spend a lot (if any) time together in person and this will change if you decide to give your relationship a go.

You may find that you get on really well when you are talking on the phone or texting, but you may well find that when you start living together things are very different. Your relationship will have an entirely new dynamic and this is something that may come as quite a shock to both of you.

This is why when you are dating you need to try to spend as much time together as possible. No matter how difficult this is it is one of the most effective ways of testing the strength of your relationship.

Find out the important stuff before you decide, for instance does the other person want children? Do they ever want to be married? These are things that you do not want to find out after you have moved in together because it will make things much more difficult if you do not agree on them.

Set a date for when you both want to be together, if you do not do this then you could very well end up going along as you are for years without ever deciding if you want to be together or not.

One of the hardest things to do in any long distance relationship is trust the other person. If you can not trust them when they are not with you then you are probably not meant to be together.

Try to talk to each other on the phone as much as possible. This is a great test of a relationship because if you look forward to these calls then you may have a real relationship but if you find ways to avoid them then you do not.
